cheese sauce

A classic, storecupboard white sauce that is loaded with strong cheddar cheese – this is our easy recipe ready in 15 minutes. Use it to make macaroni or cauliflower cheese.

Ingredients

  • 500ml milk
  • 4 tbsp plain flour
  • 50g butter
  • 100g grated strong cheddar (or 50g grated cheddar, 50g crumbled blue cheese)

Step: 1 Spill 500ml milk into a large-sized saucepan and add 4 tbsp plain flour and 50g butter.

Step: 2 For now, turn on the heat to medium and begin to whisk the mixture. Whisking fast constantly as the butter liquefies and the mixture comes to a boil – the flour will pass from the sight and the sauce will start to thicken.

Step: 3 Again whisk for the next 2 mins while the sauce bubbles then stir to mix in 100g grated strong cheddar cheese (or 50g grated cheddar, 50g crumbled blue cheese) till it melted.
